This striking photograph of the woman in question is dated October 7, 1901 - barely two months later than the previous photo! (Unfortunately, the scribbled reference to Gilded Age architect Stanford White is very faded and almost entirely illegible.) It is also odd that the woman's clothing appears more suited for the 1920s than for 1901. Even more problematic is the following photo...

This advertising photograph (done in an old color process) is dated 1926! It shows the same woman - apparently no worse for wear after 20 years! Written in fine Spencerian script on the back is a note in the woman's own hand: "Thanks for the car, Scott! Love and kisses, Velma." Things become even stranger ... |
